چکیده

In stars with temperatures above 20·10 K, hydrogen burning is dominated by the CNO cycle. Its rate is determined by the slowest process, the N(p,γ)O reaction. Deep underground in Italy’s Gran Sasso laboratory, at the LUNA 400 kV accelerator, the cross section of this reaction has been measured at energies much lower than ever achieved before. Using a windowless gas target and a 4π BGO summing detector, direct cross section data has been obtained down to 70 keV, reaching a value of 0.24 picobarn. The Gamow peak has been covered by experimental data for several scenarios of stable and explosive hydrogen burning. In addition, the strength of the 259 keV resonance has been remeasured. The thermonuclear reaction rate has been calculated for temperatures 90 – 300 ·10 K, for the first time with negligible impact from extrapolations.

Knowledge of the γ-ray branching ratios of the 7.12-MeV state of 16 O is important for the extrapolation of the 12 C(α,γ) 16 O cross section to astrophysical energies. Ground state transitions provide most of the 12 C(α,γ) 16 O total cross section while cascade transitions have contributions of the order of 10-20%. Determining the 7.12 → 6.92-MeV branching ratio will also result in a better ext...

Using ∼ 600 pb collected with the KLOE detector at DAΦNE, we have studied the production cross section of ππππ and ππγ final states in ee collisions at center of mass energies between 1000 and 1030 MeV. By fitting the observed interference pattern around Mφ for both final states, we extract a measurement (preliminary) for the ratio Γ(ω → πγ)/Γ(ω → πππ) = 0.0934± 0.0022. Since these two final st...

The proton capture cross sections of the two most proton rich, stable isotopes of Cadmium have been measured for the first time in the energy range relevant to the astrophysical p–process between Ep=2.4 and 4.7MeV. The Cd(p,γ)In and Cd(p,γ)In cross sections have been determined using the activation technique. Highly enriched as well as natural Cd targets have been irradiated with proton beams f...
